Ton's, well - he's just some guy, and that's pretty obvious from how he looks. He hails from a world caught in a never-ending and rather messy war, a war between the citizens of the two halves of the world. On one hand, you have the magic-users, people who can emit black smoke from their mouths or fingers, and once you're hit by this smoke, bam, who knows what will happen to you. Some users create smoke that can heal, some can melt your bones to nothing, some can turn you to mushrooms - the effects vary hugely, and so many magic-users turn to the non-magic-users - the citizens of the Hole, as the filthier half of the world is called - as guinea pigs. All magic-users have to do is create a little smoke and poof, there's a door to the Hole, where tons of unsuspecting and defenseless people lay, just waiting to be tested on. So there are the magic-users, the non-magic users, and everyone stuck in between.

And then there's the Cross-Eyes Gang. (The name does not mean they're all cross-eyed, which Ton thinks would be kinda funny, but rather that they all have even-armed crosses tattooed on their eyes. Makes sense, huh?) Which is, pretty much, just a gang, kind of like what you'd know of as the mafia - currently, they're in the drug trade business. Or, at least, they used to be (they're in a bit of a financial rut at the moment, so they're making a living doing odd jobs and collecting on recycling refunds). So they have to be able to defend themselves.

To be completely honest, Ton's really not the best fighter around. Well, okay, he's like six-foot-five and kind of built, so he could probably bench-press you without too much of an effort (and break you in half with some effort), but that's completely different from being a good fighter. Hand-to-hand combat really isn't his forte, and he's kind of slow in his movements, so that might be why. Smarts? Not too good either. Not that he's retarded, but if you're looking for someone to come up with clever plans and moments of genius brilliance - nope, you got the wrong person.

Though, there's one thing he doesn't lose at, and that's knife-throwing. He carries around a case of maybe fifteen-or-so knives inside his jacket at all times, and damn, he knows how to use him. He once deactivated a camera switch from 35 meters through an iron-barred window - he's just that good. He can probably knife you in the back of the head from further than you'd like.

But then again, why would he want to do that? He's a pretty friendly guy in general - willing to help out, and all-around nice - not that he's all touchy-feely and mushy and sentimental, since he can watch someone get stabbed in the back of the head without much more than an "oh", but hey, when things are going well, no need to be hostile, right? He's friendly enough to try and avoid most fights with a passive talk instead - though he once did that and got punched in the mouth and lost a tooth and uh, the guy that punched him, they found him snapped in two at the waist so yeah, you might want to be careful not to piss him off. It's difficult to make him mad, but once he decides to smash you - you should start running. (Though, he can hit a moving target from fifty-plus meters. You better run fast.) Kind of a like a big fat bear, in a way - friendly at most times. Just so long as you watch your back once friendly times are over.
